Semarang Great Sale

TEMPO Interactive, Semarang:The Head of Tourism and Promotion of Central Java Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Benita Eka Arijani, who pioneered the activity, said that Semarang Great Sale was the integration of sale activities carried out at every mall.

“Sales are usually conducted sporadically. We coordinated them to become a more commonplace activity, so the impact could be felt more,” Benita told Tempo yesterday.

The main target of the Semarang Great Sale is residents from Central Java and the surrounding areas.

“If this could be held yearly, the target market could be expanded to foreign visitors,” Benita added.

Next week, the committee will count more specifically the target market and the transaction target.

Benita added that the Semarang Great Sale will be enlivened by contemporary and traditional cultural performances.

In order to make the event successful, they have partnered with 16 associations, stakeholders and the tourism promotional board.

All retailers, malls, hotels, restaurants, culinary tours, tourism sites and recreational places will provide large discounts.

Benita said she hoped that the Semarang Government would facilitate the promotion by providing special discounts.

“The success of the event depends on vigorous promotion.”

The head of Central Java Association of Indonesia Tours and Travel Agents (Asita) Fatirrahman said that in order to make the activities successful, Asita will sell cheap travel packages.

“So, we will not only give discounts for shopping at malls, but also for other tours,” he said.

“We are still working on the details,” said Fatirrahman.

Beside discounts at malls, there will be the Pandaran II Culinary Festival (October 2-3), the Semarang Great Festival (October 1-3, 2010) in Lawang Sewu, the Borobudur Travel Mart (second week), and a computer exhibition in DP Mall and Java Supermall on October 9-13.
